2009 Grant Awards
Reading Recovery
The current grant deadline for Reading Recovery grant proposals is November 30, 2008. Awards ranging from
$1000 to $10,000 will be decided by foundation committee and announced in early 2009.
Eligibility
All Reading Recovery program sites in the California Counties of Merced and Stanislaus are eligible to apply
for a grant.
Sites that have previously been awarded a grant from The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation must resubmit a
grant proposal each year.
Application Process
Applicants should be school or district administrators, Reading Recovery teachers, or Reading Recovery
trainers for the school or district applying for a grant.
Proposal Guidelines
Please submit the following information on official school or district letterhead:
- A detailed description of the current Reading Recovery program at your site. Include your mission, number
of Reading Recovery teachers, and number of students served. Be sure to describe how long your site has been
providing Reading Recovery to students.
- An explanation of the future plans for your program.
- A description of any evaluation tools used to measure Reading Recovery program effectiveness at your
site. Please describe outcomes noted for the past three successive years, if applicable. If the grant proposal is
for an individual teacher, describe evaluation tools and outcomes as they specifically relate to that individual's
teaching performance.
- A description of current program costs, budget (including funding from other sources), and anticipated
needs for the following year.
- Complete contact information for the person completing the proposal. A telephone number, fax number,
email address, and postal address should be included.

Use of Grant Funds
Grants may be used only for purposes for which the grants were made. Grant recipients are required to provide
a written final use report to The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation no later than 12 months after grant funds have
been awarded. The written report must include a description of how grant funds were used. Complete accounting
verification such as cancelled checks, purchase orders, receipts, etc. must also be supplied in this final report.
The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation may withhold and/or recover grant funds in the case such funds are, or
appear to be, misused.
Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read program sites are not required to submit grant proposals. Grant awards for Reach Out and
Read sites will be selected by foundation committee with respect to site information provided from the national Reach
Out and Read development office in Massachusetts. Grant gifts ranging from $1000 to $10,000 will be announced in
early 2009.
