How Our Grants Work

Adult Literacy Grant

cslfadultliteracygrant_shadowedLiteracy programs serving adult populations in Merced, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and/or Stanislaus counties are eligible to apply for $1000 grants. Awards are decided by foundation committee and announced each fall. Application deadline is May 1st.

Reach Out and Read Grant

The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation is committed to the ongoing support of Reach Out and Read sites in Central California and the San Francisco Bay Area. Awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 are decided by foundation committee and announced each fall. Sites do not have to formally apply for Reach Out and Read grant funds. All Reach Out and Read sites located in the geographic areas we serve and in good standing (as determined by the Reach Out and Read national office) are eligible for grant fund consideration.

Use of Grant Funds

Adult Literacy grant recipients are required to provide a written final use report to The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation no later than 12 months after grant funds have been awarded. The written report must include a description of how grant funds were used. Complete accounting verification such as cancelled checks, purchase orders, receipts, etc. must be supplied in this final report.

Reach Out and Read grants are used solely for book purchases. We work closely with Reach Out and Read's national office in Massachusetts to ensure that grant funds are deposited directly into prepaid book accounts for each of our sites.

The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation may withhold and/or recover grant funds in the case such funds are, or appear to be, misused.
